Stories 2007 - CQ WW 160m CW 2007

If you thought that winter will not come this year, or will start in the beginning of March (I. Subregional Contest), you weren’t right. We planned to take part in CQ WW 160m DX CW Contest, so it was clear that during 4th January week snow break disaster was expected. eek

Because of extremely warm winter and no snow we decided to take part in CQ WW 160m DX CW Contest and try also some HF contest, not only VHF or microwaves. Initial plan was to use QTH in little settlement of few houses on hill (950m ASL) faraway of any town and QRN. As usual weather changed few days before contest and winter came again (weekend during A1 Contest in November was the only snowy weekend till end of January frown). So we had to use back-up QTH – area of sport gun-range above Turany.
On Friday we built full size GP (36m high) with two radials and beverage to USA. Another beverage to east was built on Saturday. But something was wrong and both of them didn’t receive properly, sometimes there wasn’t big difference in readability between beverage and vertical. Naturally it cost us many missing DX QSOs we couldn’t hear. EU pileups made us pleasure, but reading long distance signals was very tiring.
On Sunday morning we started to pack everything to be at home till evening.
In spite of that, it was nice contest with a lot of fun – Willy OM3CDZ celebrated his birthday (participation in this contest was also partly occasion for buck party cool). Also other HAM-visitors tried to sabotage us and sometimes it seemed they will succeed biggrin.

Thanks to everyone for calling and see you next (that wasn’t our only HF contest surely).
